2022, for the VKR group, is full of anniversaries. It is a good time to look at the history of the group and learn about its strategy, which is unique on the market and has a chance to contribute to the next great successes of its companies.


A year full of anniversaries

Exactly 80 years ago, Villum Kann Rasmussen founded the V. Kann Rasmussen & Co company, which laid the foundation for the entire VKR Group – the world leader in the production of roof windows. In turn, 20 years ago, the company Altaterra was established, whose mission in the group is to provide affordable daylight solutions, while maintaining the highest level of customer satisfaction. Altaterra achieves this goal by constantly expanding the scope of its operations and expanding the base of its customers who appreciate a modern approach to business and flexibility in everyday cooperation. During these two decades, windows manufactured by Altaterra have been installed in hundreds of thousands of homes across Europe, inviting daylight and fresh air to them.

Multi-brand strategy

From the very beginning, Altaterra has focused on the production of high-quality and cost-effective roof windows, skylights and accessories. Every year, it expands its range of products with new categories, such as flat roof windows, loft ladders or solar roller shutters, to provide its business partners with an assortment tailored to their needs. Today, Altaterra sells its products across Europe under several brands, adapted to different markets, segments and requirements, while delivering excellent, yet flexible customer support.

RoofLITE+ is a brand targeted at end users. A simple product range, proven solutions and a transparent method of installation encourage the self-assembly of the window even by homeowners with little or no experience.

Dakea is a brand targeted at professionals. It offers the widest range of products and marketing support that distinguishes this offer on the market. It is also the brand of first choice for developers in many markets.

The Balio offer is addressed to Partners looking for an offer in the economic segment, where the price of the product is more important than marketing support. This brand proves that you can offer less expensive roof windows without compromising on quality.

Contrio is a brand that focuses on roof window blinds that are perfectly suited to all Altaterra windows and not only. Contrio blinds fit roof windows of many manufacturers.


The multi-brand strategy is designed to ensure that Altaterra can achieve its strategic goal of becoming number 2 in the global roof window market. As a company, Altaterra believes there is always a better way to do something. Being a relatively young organisation, it is hungry for knowledge and eager to improve and develop. In effect, it provides the best possible solutions that meet and even exceed customer needs. Therefore, all employees are determined to make this goal a reality, looking for a new and better way every day.
