Sustainable Products

Reduce our product carbon footprint

50% reduction
of product carbon footprint

Raw materials, transport and production are key components in our product carbon footprint. To achieve our product carbon footprint reduction goal, we will significantly change the way we specify and develop our products. For example, we are looking into the following carbon reduction levers:

• reducing material weight
• replacing materials with lower carbon footprint materials
• redesigning products

We will be working with the most carbon contributing materials and processes adding up to the embodied carbon footprint (such as metal, glass and plastics), and several other carbon reduction levers. We will collaborate with our supply chain to reach our target.

Green our
packaging

Ensure single material packaging |
100% recyclable | Zero plastic

With this target we want to do our part in reducing the amount of packaging world-wide and to limit the use of plastics.

Our packaging is an important component of our products and must therefore also be as ‘green’ as possible. We will adjust our product packaging from a mix of paper/cardboard-based materials and plastic to solely paper/cardboard that can be disposed of and or re-cycled in one process without the need for sorting and separation.

Making packaging single material and 100% recyclable will ease disposal for our customers. The target covers windows and accessories packaging

Our ambition is to have zero plastic in our packaging, as part of our overall goal to use 100 percent recyclable materials in our packaging by 2030.

Achieve zero
waste

50% reduction in average non-utilized
waste per produced window

Today, 97% of waste from our production processes is recycled or used as an energy source for heat generation.

To strengthen our waste reduction efforts up to now (‘waste vision zero’), we want to reduce non-utilised waste by 50% per produced window.

For many years, we have been working towards the reduction of raw material waste by optimising production processes and supplied materials. For example, we have optimised wood and aluminium cutting processes, where machinery modifications and changes in  supplied material specifications have generated less waste. We are also working with our suppliers to optimise the packaging of delivered products and materials.

VELUX GROUP SUSTAINABILITY TARGETS WITH ALTATERRA PRODUCTS IN SCOPE*

*Altaterra is part of the VELUX Group yet operates as a separate independent entity. The two companies have complementary identities and goals, that meet the needs of different market segments. VELUX Group manufactures and supplies Altaterra products and they are incorporated in the Group’s 2030 sustainability targets.
